1. “Dragoş Lungu Piano School” Association, Bacau City Hall, Bacău County Council, with the support of the Mihail Jora State Philharmonic in Bacau, organizes the International Piano Competition “Frédéric Chopin” from 9th to 11th May 2019.
2. The contest is addressed to preschoolers, pupils (grades I – XII), students and master students from state and private education, from the country and abroad.
3. The competition aims to stimulate the specialty training of young musicians, as well as to deepen the piano repertoire.



1. The competition is open to pianists born after January 1, 1993. The contestants will be grouped in 7 categories from A to G. The competition will be presented by supporting a program made up of different works such as gender, style and character:
Cat.A – 2011, 2012
- an etude and work of choice.
Cat. B – 2009 – 2010, Cat.C – 2007 – 2008, Cat.D – 2005 – 2006, Cat.E – 2002 – 2004.
a) a romantic or postromantic etude;
b) a work from the classical repertoire (Part I of sonata or sonatino, fantasy, rondo, theme with variations – forms of self-standing);
c) a work of choice.
Note: One of the works presented in the repertoire of categories D and E must be by Frédéric Chopin.
Cat.F – 1999 – 2001 and Cat. G 1993 – 1998
- Stage I
a) an etude of the creation of composer Frédéric Chopin;
b) a work by J.S.Bach.
c) a work from the classical repertoire (Part I of sonata, fantasy, rondo, theme with variations – forms of self-standing);
Stage II
a) a work from the work of composer Frédéric Chopin, except for studies;
b) a work from a stylistic period different from the rest of the repertoire chosen for Stage I (postromantic, modern, Romanian or contemporary).


2. Maximum duration of the contest program:
Cat. A: 10 min max.
Cat. B: 15 min max.
Cat.C: 20 min max.
Cat.D, E: 25 min max.
Cat. F, G: 55 min / Stage I – 25 min .; Stage II 30 min.


3. Competitors will present the repertoire in memory without repetitions.


4. The contest will be held with the public. The order of entry will be determined by the organizers and will be displayed in due time at the headquarters of the Mihail Jora State Philharmonic in Bacau and on the contest website
5. To enter the competition, the following are required:
- Enrollment form (completed in full)
- copy of the birth certificate or identity document;
- copy of the enrollment fee receipt;
- a photo ;
- xerox copies of the works in the repertoire (submitted to the secretariat of the contest on the day of the participant’s arrival).

7. Registration deadline is May 2, 2019, postmark. There are no entries during the contest period.


8. Non-observance of the repertoire in accordance with the “1″ item of this regulation, communicated through the enrollment form, results in disqualification of the competitor.
9. The contest provides prizes for each category, as well as the Grand Prix – the Trophy “Frédéric Chopin”. In order to win the Grand Prix, the “Frédéric Chopin” Trophy and the Special Prize, which is to support a concert in the company of “Mihail Jora” Philharmonic in Bacau, competitors will have to play two works from the composer’s creation, Frédéric Chopin. Special mentions and prizes can be awarded. Diplomas and awards are raised personally only at the Laureates’ Gala.
The winners of the 1st Prize will be programmed in a series of recitals that will take place in Bacau, Iasi, Piatra Neamt, Roman, Botosani, Suceava and Bucharest.
- 1st prize – 75 euro
- 2nd prize – 50 euro
- 3rd prize – 35 eur0
10. The Jury reserves the right not to award certain prizes in the event of non-performance.


11. The participation fee for the International Piano Contest “Frédéric Chopin” is 25 euro and will be submitted by May 2, 2019, to the account RO03BTRL00401205U83786XX of the organizer of the “Dragos Lungu Piano School Association”.


12. If you do not attend the contest, the participation fee will not be refunded.


13. The costs of transport, accommodation and meals will be borne by competitors. On-demand reservations can be made at the hostel or hotel.


14. All contests are public and will take place at the “Athenaeum” Hall of the “Mihail Jora” State Philharmonic in Bacău, nr. 22.


15. All competitors will be judged on the basis of a single scoring system, with the jury’s decision being uncontested.


16. Competitors will be assessed according to the following criteria:
- respecting the musical text;
- technical achievement;
- artistic achievement;
- the interpretative personality.


17. The Jury reserves the right to discontinue the competitor if the maximum duration specified in the Regulation is exceeded.
